Writing Curriculum Vitae
A CV or curriculum vitae is a marketing tool. When applying for a vacancy you generally first have to send your CV to present yourself to the employer. With your CV you will be able to promote yourself. It´s often helpful to take a look at a sample or two before you start writing. CV´s must do their work quickly. Collect and check all necessary information. A Curriculum Vitae should include your name, contact information, education, skills and experience. In addition to the basics, a CV includes research and teaching experience, publications, grants, awards and other information relevant to the position you are applying for. Write down headings such as Personal details, Education and qualifications, Work Experience, Skills, Interests, other information. Education and qualifications? usually means post-secondary, summer schools, trainings or university background. List your education and work experience in reverse order ? start with most recent job. Work Experience ? includes full-time paid jobs, academic research projects or part-time jobs. List months/years you worked, position, name and location of employer or place and responsibilities you had. Skills ? name computer skills, foreign languages indicating fluency and communication. Include additional information that you think could help your application, e.g. travel experience or voluntary work. Make sure your CV is well-organised.
